BLACK KEYS EXHAUSTED, CANCEL TOUR DATES
The Black Keys are one of the hottest acts going, but the release is acquiring the best of the band. The grouping has called off its upcoming tour of Australia and New zealand as good as a number of shows in Europe while dealing with exhaustion. The duo apologized for the canceled dates and added that the band needed the time off.
They also thanked the fans for their hold of the "Brothers" album.
SetUS ON THE MARK FOR COLDPLAY
Coldplay will give two producers for their next disc. Brian Eno is a hangover from the "Viva La Vida" album, but Markus Dravs was called in to bring his critical ear to what the set is doing in the studio as well. Singer Chris Martin told Music-News.com, quote, "We'd just met with Brian Eno, and he said, 'We too need another person, because I wish to do the form of sowing the seeds, the more abstract stuff, but we too take a woodchopper guy who's gonna organize everything."
Coldplay invited Dravs to select break after receiving a testimonial from Arcade Fire's Win Butler. The vocalist recalls, quote, "Win said, 'You should try this guy Markus. He's wonderful and he's extremely talented, but he's brutal. 'This is awful' or 'this is great.' He's extreme." Martin says Dravs addition will continue the ring from being too complacent with their music, adding, quote, "One of the dangers of acquiring a bit successful is that no one pushes you quite so hard. But we don't take that problem at the moment."
BEASTIES SEEING DOUBLE
The Beastie Boys are a larger than life outfit, which may explain why it's taking multiple actors to present them in the upcoming short film, "Fight For Your Right Revisited." IMDB.com now has a good form for the film, which is debuting this week at the Sundance Film Festival. And, as it turns out, two actors will meet each of the three Beastie Boys. Elijah Wood and Will Ferrell will play Ad-Rock, Danny McBride and John C. Reilly have been sick as MCA, and Seth Rogen and Jack Black do their best Mike D. The film, which will also doubled as a picture for the Beastie Boys' new album track "Make Some Noise," also features appearances by Susan Sarandon and Stanley Tucci as the parents from the "Struggle For Your Right" video. All 3 of the original Beastie Boys also appear as cops.
Other celebrity cameos include Orlando Bloom, Kirsten Dunst, David Cross, Will Arnett, Amy Poehler, Jason Schwartzman, Adam Scott, Rainn Wilson, Steve Buscemi, Chloe Sevigny, Alicia Silverstone, Martin Starr, Ted Danson, Rashida Jones, and R.E.M.'s Mike Mills. All that is known of the game is that it follows a history of what happens following the company from the "Fight For Your Right" video.
BLUR'S UP TO "SOMETHING"
Blur will be back this year, but it remains to be seen how often and when and where. Drummer Dave Rowntree told "Gigwise.com" that the group have been discussing ideas a lot over the last few weeks and they will definitely do something together this year. As for that "something," Rowntree says, quote, "Who knows what it's release to end up like. What I do know is that we don't want to commit ourselves to anything vast at the moment. We're dipping our toes in the water." Back in December, singer Damon Albarn revealed that plans were in order to introduce the studio this month.
SMITHS GUITARIST Johnny MARR WANTS TO RELEASE MEMOIRS
Johnny Marr may eventually share his history with the world. The Smiths guitarist, who has spent time in late years performing with The Cribs and Modest Mouse, revealed in a Twitter posting that he's been made a good offer to publish his memoirs. He adds, quote, "I'd get into it and that would entail less time on songs. It will happen though. It will be an autobiography of course, that or around my collection of fascinating public bus tickets from the '80s. That would be cool." During a recent break from his band obligations, Marr assisted composer Hans zimmer in creating the score for the Leonardo DiCaprio film, "Inception."
GET UP KIDS GET UP TO THE CHALLENGE
The Get Up Kids are back, but their reunion is not backed by some major conglomerate. The reunited rockers decided that with relaunching the band, they wanted to do things their way and that included starting their own label. Singer Matt Pryor tells Billboard.com, quote, "The Vagrant we signed to in 1999 is a completely different society than it is now. There were five people working there when we signed and it's a larger company now. When the band got back together, we felt like it was a proverbial rebirth for us, so we said, 'Let's get it backward to the real beginning - back to the foremost thing we always did,' which was put the read out ourselves." The group formed Quality Hill records and their label will issue "There Are Rules" on January 25th.
HAVING Confidence IN YOUR WHITE LIES
White Lies are winning the following step in their growth and bassist Charles Cave tells BBC's "6Music" that it comes across in their music. He says he found it odd when people labeled the music from their first album as obscure and depressing. Cave explains, quote, "I think musically.[there] is a lot of uncertainty and tons of worry, but this one, the lyrical theme has touched on quite a bit. Just the overall impression is a lot more convinced I think."
The bassist says their "Ritual" album was something that barely came flowing out and they avoided the pitfalls that run to do with recording a second album. He adds, quote, "For us it was a thousand times easier than the outset one. We could have well said, 'Okay, we're passing to make a class to cause an album,' because we can, and what I mean is difficult is having the discipline to say, 'No, we're not. We're leaving to do this as quick and as easily as we can.'" "Ritual" is in stores now.
