Before I get into what's happening this week in clubland, I wanted to have a second to say adieu to a regular on the local music scene. Farewell to a whirling dervish of push who was Billy Ruane. I always knew I was at a cool show when I saw Billy in the interview at one of the many venues around town.He was slow to recognise in the gang with his trademark disheveled look, his enthusiasm was contagious and you never knew when he was going do an aerial karate kick.

One of the final picture I saw him at was Teenage Fanclub at Royale a pair of weeks ago, he was hanging in the cover but you couldn't miss his presence. So here's to you Billy, I was passing to say rest in peace but that doesn't really make sense instead I'll say keep on rocking and observation over your beloved music scene. You are already missed.On Thursday night you can go your Halloween celebrations at TTs with John Powhida as Todd Rundgren, Preacher Roe as Guided By Voices, Guilded Splinter as The Rolling Stones and Brownboot as The Faces. Also on Thursday the Legendary Pink Dots are at the Middle East and Hugh Cornwell from the Stranglers will be at Church performing the Strangler debut album Rattus Norvegicus in its entirety with guests The Vosok 4 and The Gobshites. Lots going on on Friday night with a big benefit show for Target Cancer with Palmdale (Kay Hanley's new band), Will Daily The Rivals and Mike Gent at Artists for Humanity Epicenter, Boston;The Weisstronauts, Sool, Axemunkee and Mark Kroos are at Sally O'Briens and it's discharge and The Rudds, Sidewalk Driver and Boston Beat Machine are at the Rosebud. Saturday night is chock full of Halloween shows so jolly much wherever you go, go in costume. A pair of highlights include: SuperVolcano as MGMT, A Bit Much as Ziggy Stardust, PFM as Radiohead, Steight Angular as Passion Pit, Deezy and The Brobots as Weezer and Whore at the Doorway as The Pixies at Pa's Lounge;The Lights Out as Madonna, MidAtlantic as Lady Ga Ga, The Luxury as The Go Gos and The Hot Protestants as Britney Spears at Church and the Nancy Neon Halloween Bash with Spitz (as the Cramps), The Coffin Lids, Sticky Business and The Varmints at the Cantab. On Sunday night (Halloween! the Rosebud (or should I say Roseblood?) is hosting a Halloween party with the Summer Villains; there's aSteam Punk Halloween Ball at TTs with Platform One and at Toad there's Trick or Treat Her Right! Monday has The Varmints, Port Charles Quintet, Dennis Most & the Instigators and Jay Allen & the Archcriminals at Charlie's Kitchen and a soldout show at Great Scotts with Juliana Hatfield and Evan Dando. On Tuesday night there's the rescheduled Bettie Serveert show at TTs with Me and Joan Collins opening and at Great Scotts is your second chance to catch Julian and Evan (tickets still available). Wednesday is the beginning of 5 nights of the International Pop Overthrow at Pa's Lounge with Lemonpeeler, The Buckners, Eddie Japan, Powderhouse and more. Also on Wednesday Mr Ho's Orchestrotica Mini is at Johnny D's; Jordan Valentine and the Sunday Saints are at the Milky Way; The Dandy Warhols and Gentle Giant are at Royale and The Dresden Dolls have their second night at the Wilbur.Thursday, 10/28:
